Comparison chart of business tax rates for Bay Area cities

Postby autumn on Mon Jun 22, 2009 3:39 pm

If any of you folks are thinking about starting up a business in the SF Bay Area, we just published a chart that compares business tax rates side by side for most Bay Area cities. When we moved last year, this info was very useful in helping us narrow our search, and I hope it saves you folks some legwork, as well!

There's also a quick and dirty business tax calculator that will estimate your taxes for every city in the chart, so you can see what the tax rates look like for your particular situation. The calculator only works for office-type businesses, and it uses the same information as the chart. (Sometimes it won't be clear what category your business fits into; if this happens, we try to guess high, so you won't be unpleasantly surprised.)

All the info should be accurate, but if you find any errors, please let us know!

audustdix,

The business tax chart covers every city down the peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose, plus Santa Cruz and parts of the East Bay.

The calculator covers the same cities.

Specifically, the cities we currently cover are:
San Francisco
Daly City
South San Francisco
Pacifica
San Bruno
Millbrae
Burlingame
Hilsborough
San Mateo
Belmont
Foster City
San Carlos
Redwood City
Atherton
Menlo Park
Palo Alto
Woodside
Portola Valley
Mountain View
Los Altos
Los Altos Hills
Sunnyvale
Santa Clara
Cupertino
Saratoga
Campbell
San Jose
Los Gatos
Santa Cruz

Orinda
Albany
Emeryville
Berkeley
Oakland
Piedmont
Alameda

As you can see, the East Bay coverage is a little spotty at the moment. If you're looking for a particular city and it's not there, please let me know! I'd be happy to add it to both the chart of taxes and the calculator.
